Company History
The Prestolite organization had its founding roots in the automotive industry in 1911.
In 1927, the expanding Electric Autolite Company acquired the Prestolite Battery Company and during the next 30 years the company diversified into wire and cable, aircraft batteries, spark plugs, electric motors and die castings. In 1961, the brand name "Autolite" was sold to Ford, and the company name was changed to Prestolite. In 1963 the Prestolite Company was purchased by the Eltra Corporation. In 1980, the Eltra Corporation was acquired by Allied Corporation, and in late 1984, four of the manufacturing facilities of the Prestolite Company were combined to form the Prestolite Wire Division.
In 1986, Prestolite Wire Corporation became a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Henley Group, Inc. with corporate headquarters located in Southfield, Michigan, and on January 1, 1989 Prestolite Wire Corporation became a privately held company.
Our commitment to quality is recognized by our customers. Prestolite Wire was named to Nissan's 1995 and 1996 Quality Master Award Roll, and we were named Holley Automotive's 1995 Supplier of the Year. As a result of this outstanding quality level, Prestolite ignition sets are currently sourced on 100% of Ford and Chrysler-built engines worldwide, as well as on Honda and Nissan engines built in North America.
