Turnkey, Single-Supplier Support: Design Through Manufacturing
Prestolite Wire manufactures a broad range of ignition products for automotive original equipment, aftermarket, marine and racing applications. In-house capabilities allow Prestolite to deliver complete ignition wiring harnesses and cable assemblies on a turnkey, single supplier basis. Products include individual 5mm, 7mm, 8mm, and 9mm spark plug wire leads and complete harnesses with wire separators and/or wire routing trays.
Ignition Product Development And Testing Capabilities
Prestolite supports automotive customers through our Research and Development Center in Port Huron, MI. Over the past ten years, this facility has introduced 60 new ignition products and received 47 patents.
The R&D Center supports Prestolite engineers in Tifton, GA and Nogales, Mexico. The combined capabilities of these facilities include: material development and testing; 3D modeling; environmental stressing and conditioning, including ozone, thermal shock, vibration, and salt spray; high voltage and RFI testing; ignition wire routing; and over-the-road testing on a variety of vehicle platforms.
High Volume, High Quality Manufacturing Capability
Prestolite produces wire for its ignition products at a 435,000 sq. ft. extrusion plant in Paragould, AR. Wire sets and harnesses are manufactured by plants in Tifton, GA (118,000 sq. ft.) and Nogales, Sonora, Mexico (67,000 sq. ft.). These facilities employ automated and semi-automated production and inspection equipment and cellular manufacturing techniques. Each manufacturing cell is dedicated to producing wire sets for a particular vehicle. Employees assigned to a cell become “experts” at their tasks. They also are responsible for scheduling their own hours to meet production schedules and for the quality of the products assembled in their cell. This team-based approach to manufacturing has earned Prestolite Wire the highest quality designations, including Ford Q1, Chrysler Pentastar, QS 9000, TS 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 14000, Honda Preferred Supplier, and Nissan Quality Masters.
